Detroit back to work

The series I present is called "Detroit Back to Work." It considers what Detroit will do after bankruptcy. The men I photographed care nothing about bankruptcy, politics, or social agenda, though; they care about getting on with the work of that 50-ton train in front of them. As oilmen working in refineries around Detroit, they have the challenge of pulling the city's main engine out of repair and back on track.

The images depict the Detroit American worker: alive and well; steady, strong, and solid. Far from a relic of days gone by, the Detroit workforce is moving forward and getting on with the task before them–the hard way.

"Detroit Back to Work" maintains that excuses and laziness are unacceptable. Although news reports about bankruptcy and unemployment in Detroit may be true, it is also true that the Detroit American workers are the unsung heroes of the city, working day by day to keep the train on the tracks.
